Closed Cell Sponge Products

Closed Cell Silicone Sponge (Red) Medium Density

Closed Cell Silicone Sponge is available in Soft, Medium and Firm densities. It is a high performance gasketing material designed for applications that require an excellent compression set resistance and a wide operating temperature range. The tight and uniform cell structure prevents water absorption per ASTM D1056 of less than 3%. The smooth surface finish improves the sealing capabilities by providing 100% surface to surface contact and promotes better PSA adhesion. Closed Cell Silicone Sponge is formulated per AMS3195, AMS3196, ASTM D1056, MIL-R-6130 Type II, ASTM D6576 Type II, MIL-R-46089, UL94 HB, UL94 V-0 and FDA.

Key Benefits of Silicone Sponge

  • Wide operating temperature range of -100°F to 500°F (-73°C to 260°C)
  • Weather sealing – the closed cell structure allows for good weather sealing with relatively low compressive forces. UL 50 and UL 50E grades are available
  • Excellent compression set resistance especially at higher temperatures, compared to most rubber material
  • UV and ozone resistance due in part to their inorganic backbone providing long term performance
  • Silicone sponge is a good material choice for outdoor environments, from the Arctic to the desert.
  • FDA approval – Required for food and pharmaceutical packing equipment and product handling

Available in

SCE41B Sponge | Neoprene Blend (EPDM/CR/SBR)

Style SCE41B soft closed cell sponge Neoprene/EPDM/SBR blend combines the best qualities of all three rubber elastomers which creates an excellent gasket material that can be used in many indoor and outdoor gasketing applications that require a temperature range of -40°F to + 200°F.

Typical Applications

  • Ideal for reducing vibration and sound transmission through wall assemblies
  • Commonly used as a weatherproofing for skylights, construction and acoustical applications
  • Gasketing of cleanrooms, doors, windows, hatches etc.
  • Sports Equipment cushioning
  • Electrical panel & AC/ventilation gasket and seal
  • Single or double-sided adhesive backing

Neoprene/EPDM/SBR closed cell sponge is resistant to ozone, sunlight, and oxidation. Style SCE41B is UL-94- HF-1 listed and passes the flammability specifications of FMVSS-302. It is also UL157, UL50, UL508, UL48 and UL50E listed and is classified as “2A1” under ASTM D 1056-07.
